The Alliance for Bhikkhunis, the world’s only advocacy group for Theravada nuns, declares a Saturday in September of each year to be “International Bhikkhuni Day” – this year September 17th – since ancient records indicate that the Buddha founded the female Order (Bhikkhuni Sangha) in the month of September. Buddhist disciples (led by monks of Sri Lankan descent) celebrated the 2600 anniversary of the founding of the male renunciate Order (Bhikkhu Sangha) several years ago, and as the female Order was founded several years later, we celebrate the Bhikkhuni Sangha’s 2600th anniversary this September 17th.

Welcome to come show support for female ordination, learn some teachings, do some meditation, take formal Refuge & Precepts, offer food, and enjoy the company of like-minded people.
