Achie Satima to Visit Charlotte Buddhist Vihara

We would like to welcome Achie Satima who will be a guest at the Charlotte Buddhist Vihara from February 3rd until March 2nd 2016.

Ven. Satima was born in Sri Lanka 80 years ago. In her youth she trained as an educator and moved to the USA. For 20 years she worked in a Montessori elementary school in Minneapolis, MN, then founded two schools of her own. She ran those two schools for 10 years before retiring in the 1990’s.

She then trained and lived as a Zen priest. Later, in 2006, she became a fully-ordained Theravada bhikkhuni in Sri Lanka (in the same ordination batch with our friend Ayya Sobhana).
Now feeling like everyone’s grandmother, this dynamic tiny little nun is fondly called “Achie” or “Grandmother” Satima. (That’s Achie with a soft c, like “Archie” without the r.)

Achie lived in Minneapolis in close association with the Minneapolis Sri Lanka Buddhist Vihara, until last year, when she moved to Evergreen, CO to be close with family.
